Pontiac, Vintage Man's Swiss Watch, ETA2451 Auto, Early 60s, Serviced, G/teed

  

This rare, c1960, Swiss classic is quality built and in excellent condition. It is quite advanced for its time featuring; automatic wind, sweep second hand, incabloc shock resistance and water resistant compressor case. The gold plated case is exceptional, 20 micron thick, shows no sign of brassing, no serious scratches or dents.

Bear in mind that this watch is around 63 years old. The dial and hands show no aging and the perspex crystal is new. The Swiss ETA2451 automatic wind movement is superbly finished in the finest Swiss tradition. It is an important part of horological history being the for runner of the ETAs which dominated the generic market to this day. It has been overhauled/serviced, performs well and looks down right beautiful. The leather strap is new, quality, Duraflex brand and is typical of the style of the period. It has been on a wrist once and that was mine to take the photo. All old dried up lubricants, crud and anything else that shouldn't be there is cleaned away. Then, it is reassembled, lubricated, adjustments made and regulated.

Water resistance and accidental damage is not guaranteed. A vintage mechanical watch will not perform like a modern quartz (electronic) watch. It is not ideal as a daily wearer. It should be treated for what it is, something old, classical and special.

Treat it as you would a vintage car - not ideal to use as a "daily driver". Keep it in the condition at which you bought it and it will hold or, indeed, increase its value. Use it every day and it will go backwards. I finished my apprenticeship in 1973 having completed technical training at the RMIT, Melbourne.
